Pasteurisation Energy Optimizer PEnO – a heat recovery and energy supply system for food processing and pasteurisation processes based on an innovative high-temperature heat pump integrated with a thermal energy storage unit using phase-change phenomena
M.A.S. Sp. z o.o announces that it is implementing a project co-financed by the European Funds titled: “Pasteurisation Energy Optimizer PEnO – a heat recovery and energy supply system for food processing and pasteurisation processes based on an innovative high-temperature heat pump integrated with a thermal energy storage unit using phase-change phenomena”, under Measure 1.2 “Support for Enterprise R&D Activities”, Priority 1 “European Funds for a Competitive Economy”, European Funds for Świętokrzyskie 2021–2027.

The project involves the implementation of industrial research and development works aimed at developing a high-capacity simultaneous heating and cooling generation system that will enable the optimisation of energy management in food processing enterprises, particularly in pasteurisation processes. The prototype system will be capable of producing cold and hot water or air at temperatures of up to 130°C and will be based on an innovative high-temperature vapour-compression heat pump. The system will feature intelligent heat supply and demand management through integration with a thermal energy storage unit using phase-change materials. A cascade system design is envisaged, and in its prototype version the system will enable the recovery of waste heat generated in agri-food processing installations.

The project’s target market primarily includes companies operating in the agri-food processing sector that carry out energy-intensive thermal processes such as pasteurisation, drying, freeze-drying, cooling, and cooking, as well as processing plants such as dairies, breweries, bakeries, meat and fruit processing companies, and other entities engaged in large-scale food production. The system will also be offered to other industries where there is a demand for both cooling and high-temperature heating.

The implementation of the project will contribute to strengthening the company’s market position, increasing customer satisfaction, and supporting the company’s sustainable development strategy.

Project implementation period: 01.07.2025 – 31.12.2027

Total project cost: PLN 5 762 375,16

Eligible costs: PLN 5 167 383,64
